What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise that uses controlled movements and focus on core strength to improve fitness.  Pilates stretches, lengthens and strengthens the deeper muscles to improve body alignment, posture, movement and breathing. It develops awareness of body positioning, encouraging your whole body to work as an integrated unit. It is a low intensity workout that requires concentration and control.

What results will I achieve?

Pilates aims to improve muscle tone, core stability, fitness, posture, balance and flexibility.

Is it right for me?

Pilates is suitable for people of all ages and all levels of fitness. Our Pilates classes are for over 16s only.  However, as with all forms of exercise you should seek advice from your GP or a medical professional if you have any health concerns over a particular condition or injury.

What should I wear?

Something stretchy and comfortable that allows you to move freely.  It is better not to wear anything too baggy.  Pilates is a barefoot exercise – but you can wear socks if you prefer.

What else should I bring?

Pilates is carried out on mats which are provided – you should bring a drink to stay hydrated – water is fine.
